There are numerous ways to point a domain name to a different domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. When you own a domain and you have set up a site through some online service which supplies you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that directs to subdomain.provider.com. What you are going to achieve by doing this is that www.your-domain.com is going to be in the Internet browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned site from the servers of the third-party company. It is important to know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain may have will stop functioning, so you can't have both a CNAME record directing to one company and functioning e-mail address with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and frequently further configuration may be needed with the other provider.
CNAME Records in Website Hosting
Setting up a CNAME record using our website hosting is really simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel includes a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in just a few simple steps. There is also a video tutorial inside the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature gives you many options - if you create a company website on our end, as an illustration, the employees can use their e-mails with the company domain, not with the address of our mail server. If you want to create an Internet site by using a different company that offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain name hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, in case you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you'll be able to create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain address, so all your customers will be forwarded to a secure URL.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server through our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it will require no more than a few mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled via our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel where you will discover a section dedicated to the DNS records of the domain names and subdomains hosted inside the account. To set up a CNAME record, you'll simply have to choose the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), type where the latter is going to be forwarded to and save the modification. The new record is going to be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Modifying or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is just as simple and easy and takes a click.
