Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they mean for your Internet site?
A password-protected directory or area is a folder which could be accessed only if a username and a password are provided, so no unauthorized people could look at its content. This function can be used for the primary folder of a certain Internet site or only for a specific subfolder depending on your preferences. For example, when you are creating a new website and you don't want people to see it before it is 100% ready, you have to restrict the access to it altogether, and if you would like only some individuals to be able to access particular files, you'll be able to password-protect only a specific folder, while the remaining portion of the site may be seen by anybody. Regardless, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear if the login details the visitor inputs aren't correct. Even a direct link to a file will not work so long as any folder above it is password-protected.

Password Protected Directories in Website Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area shall take only a couple of clicks and a few seconds if you host your Internet sites inside a
website hosting account with our company. You'll not need to do anything complex - you'll have to pick a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it has to be secured, and then to enter the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. When a number of individuals need their own login details, there won't be a problem to make a number of different usernames with access to the very same folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this option is active. If you want to deactivate the protection function for any folder, you can deactivate it from the exact same section of the CP in which you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a
semi-dedicated server account with us, you shall be able to shield any content you have uploaded by using our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it's part of, so you'll not have to enter any code at any time. You'll simply have to select one of the domains/subdomains you have inside the web hosting account and to determine which folder should be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You can then type the username and the password, that will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be all set. The protection will be enabled immediately, so anyone that tries to access the freshly protected folder shall have to type in the accurate login details. In cases where several people should be able to open the exact same content, you could make a separate username for each of them.
